Training & licence options

You need to complete your CBT before taking any of these courses. The course you take will depend on your age, level of experience, and type of bike you intend to ride.

Standard Training & Test

Standard training is the only option available if you are under 21. You will train and take your practical test on a 125cc bike. On obtaining your licence, you will be restricted for two years to riding a bike of up to 25kw and a power/weight ratio not exceeding 0.16 kw/kg. After two years, you can ride any size bike.
Standard training is available at TT Bike Training on a daily or hourly (min 2 hour) basis. Maximum ratio is one instructor per two students.

Direct Access

If you are over 21 and pass your test on a bike of at least 35kw, you can then ride any size motorcycle. You can also train on any size bike as long as you are accompanied at all times by an approved instructor on another bike who is in radio contact. You must wear reflective clothing and follow all other provisional licence restrictions.

Direct access training is available at TT Bike Training on a daily or hourly (min 2 hour) basis. Maximum ratio is one instructor per two students.

Accelerated Access

If you reach the age of 21 during your two year restricted period, you can train on bikes over 25kw under the same conditions as for Direct Access, during which you will revert to learner status. On passing your test on a bike of at least 35kw you can then ride bikes of any size.

Accelerated access training is available at TT Bike Training on a daily or hourly (min 2 hour) basis. Maximum ratio is one instructor per two students.

We also offer refresher and advanced training. Please contact us for details.
